Are UV goggles necessary?

I have a collection of fluorescent minerals and I am purchasing a new Shortwave ultraviolet lamp (4 watts). If I do not use the lamp often, say I only use it a few times a week for 10 minutes at a time, do I need to buy UV goggles? I would like to for eye protection but they are kind of pricey. I would like to buy the lamp and the goggles from the same website so I save money on shipping, if I do buy them. I have used a shortwave UV light in the past and it has bothered my eyes before.
