Catching Catfish?

I usually fish for trout, but never catfish. The local lake here in the the Bay Area has had a few catfish plants lately, but I am not familar with catfishing. Here are the details, it is about 100 degrees here today and the park/lake closes at 9pm. Do catfish bite in these conditions and can anyone give me tips on bait or technique? Thanks!
